Summary
Addressing school-related problems associated with ADHD such as academic under-achievement, noncompliance with classroom rules, and problematic peer relationships, this book is specifically designed to meet the needs of school psychologists, guidance counselors, administrators, and both regular and special education teachers.
Creating a standard for working with ADHD in the school setting, chapters focus on:
- How to identify and asses students who might have ADHD
- The relationship between ADHD and learning disabilities
- How to develop and implement classroom-based programs
- Communication strategies with physicians when stimulant medications are employed
- The need for adjunct, community-based treatments, such as parent training
Also included are appendices containing sample handouts and observation coding sheets that help school practitioners translate the relevant literature into appropriate, effective treatment methods.
