About the Author

Keith Conners has has an extraordinary career as an academic, clinician, researcher, lecturer, author, editor-in-chief, and administrator. His dedication to the study of ADHD and other childhood problems has propelled him to the forefront of his field. He has written several books on attention deficit disorders and neuropsychology an hundreds of journal articles and book chapters based on his research regarding the effects of food additives, nutrition, stimulant drugs, diagnosis, and dimensional syndromes. He is truly an asset to the field of psychology.

The revised Conners’ Rating Scales (CRS-R) are a result of 30 years of research on childhood and adolescent psychopathology and problem behavior. They provide a comprehensive, versatile assessment for children and adolescents.

With items that represent internalizing and externalizing behaviors, the CRS-R scales evaluate problem behaviors, ADHD, and comorbid disorders as reported by teachers, parents (or other caregivers), and adolescents. This multirator approach provides the most accurate information possible on which to base practical intervention strategies and treatment plans. Widely used by school psychologists, child psychologists, pediatricians, clinics, child protective service agencies, juvenile detention facilities, residential treatment centers, and private practitioners, the CRS-R scales have become the standard for attention and behavior assessment in children and adolescents.

This revision (released in 1997) adds a number of enhancements to a set of measures that have long been the standard instruments for the assessment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents. The language has been updated with items that are simpler and clearer. Items have also been added that match the symptoms for ADHD outlined in the DSM-IV. The Conners’ Rating Scales-Revised evaluate problem behaviors as reported by the teacher, parents (or alternative caregivers), and adolescents. Normative data for the revised forms comes from a large community-based sample of children and adolescents collected throughout the United States and Canada. Norms are available for children and adolescents aged 3 to 17 on the parent and teacher rating forms; norms are available for adolescents aged 12 to 17 on the self-report forms.

The 80-item CPRS-R:L (parent form) includes the following subscales:
• Oppositional
• Cognitive Problems/Inattention
• Hyperactivity
• Anxious/Shy
• Perfectionism
•Social Problems
• Psychosomatic
• DSM-IV Symptom Scales
• ADHD Index
• Conners Global Index
