About the Author

Sari Solden MS, MFCC, is a psychotherapist in private practice who specializes in individual, couple, and group work with ADD adults and their partners. She serves as a consultant and trains mental health profession in the diagnosis and treatment of ADD.

Summary

If you are (or live or work with) one of the almost 10 million American adults who have ADHD, this book is vitally important. Many who experience ADHD, especially if diagnosed in adulthood, may have enjoyed some progress early in treatment, only to feel stuck and discouraged after a few years. Too often treatments tend to focus exclusively on managing the symptoms of ADHD rather than on learning to deal with the emotions surrounding the symptoms and living a fulfilling life even when symptoms persist. Sari Solden, a highly respected therapist and an expert in ADHD, will help you become unstuck. Your view of who you are and what you can accomplish probably has been distorted by many years of feeling “different” from people who don’t have ADHD. Based on Solden’s work over the past twelve years, Journey’s Through ADDulthood focuses on the emotional challenges men and women with ADHD face and is a step-by-step guide that takes you beyond understanding your symptoms to discovering your true identity, embracing your uniqueness, and learning to share your true self in order to connect with others. Solden’ insightful strategies are vividly brought to life by the journeys of two men and two women, based on the real experiences of her clients. There is also a special appendix to guide mental health professionals who counsel adults with ADHD. Her self- help exercises at the end of each chapter will steer you around common roadblocks as you navigate your own unique pathway to empowerment, satisfying social interactions, and the realization of long-denied dreams and goals.
