About the Author

Dr. C. Keith Conners has had an extraordinary and diverse career as an academic, clinician, researcher, lecturer, author, editor-in-chief, and administrator. His dedication to the study of ADHD and other childhood problems propelled him to the forefront of his field. His intense interest has led him to write several books, journal articles, and book chapters based on his research on ADHD and childhood disorders. He is highly recognized in the field of psychology for his numerous contributions.

In the course of his career, Dr. Conners was greatly intrigued by children exhibiting a diverse pattern of symptoms. He collected data on children from the general population and children with an existing symptom list who were referred to clinics, and eventually published the first version of the Conners’ Parent Rating Scale. The increasing use and popularity of the rating scales eventually made his original articles among the most cited in the literature on the subject.

Dr. Conners is now retired and is currently residing in North Carolina. He continues to lecture, present workshops on diagnosis and assessment, and serve as a consultant to numerous government and private organizations.

Dr. Conners was the recent recipient of the lifetime achievement award from both the Association for Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) and the Mental Health Research Association (NARSAD).

The Conners 3rd Edition™ (Conners 3™) and the Conners Comprehensive Behavior Rating Scales™ (Conners CBRS™) represent Dr. Conners’ life-long commitment to integrating the latest in academic research with contemporary clinical practice.

Based on the solid findings and key elements of its predecessor, the Conners Rating Scales Revised (CRSR), the Conners 3 promises to be the tool of choice in the assessment of ADHD and it now addresses comorbid disorders such as oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder.

It has updated norms, it has a new age range (6 to 18 for parent and teacher scales and 8 to 18 for self-report scales), strengthened DSM-IV-TR connections, clear applications in education settings that help identify children with clinical symptoms, and guidance on how to use the tool in intervention planning and monitoring.

Multi-Informant Assessment and Full Length and Short Forms
With separate forms for parents, teachers and youth to complete you can get a view of the childs disorder and concerns from multiple perspectives. The parent and self-report options are also available in Spanish.

Full Length Forms
The full length parent form includes 110 items, the full length teacher form includes 115 items, and the full length self-report form includes 99 items. The full length form provides a number of innovations such as three new validity scales, two new complete DSM-IV-TR symptom scales, identification of youth who require immediate attention and intervention, added screener items for both anxiety and depression, the ability to measure impairment in different environments, and the addition of executive functioning to parent and teacher forms. Spanish versions are available for parent and self-report forms. Administration time is about 20 minutes.

Short Forms
The short form, consisting of 39 items in the teacher forms, 43 in the parent forms, and 39 for the self-report forms, is an excellent tool for screening large groups of students who may require additional assessment. The short form is useful in monitoring the success of treatment programs over long periods of time. Spanish versions are available for parent and self-report forms. Administration time is about 10 minutes.

Conners 3 ADHD Index
The Conners 3 ADHD Index (Conners 3AI) items are proven to be the best in differentiating between youth with ADHD from those without a clinical diagnosis. Additionally, this form can be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment plans, and measure patient response to intervention. The Conners 3AI is included in the full length Conners 3 or can be purchased separately. Spanish versions are available for parent and self-report forms.

Conners 3 Global Index
The Conners 3 Global Index (Conners 3GI) is a fast and effective measure of general psychopathology. It includes the 10 best predictive items from the trusted market leader, CRSR, parent and teacher rating scales. The Conners 3GI has proven to be a fast and effective measure and is specifically used in monitoring treatment and intervention. Spanish versions are available for parent and self-report forms.

Administration and Scoring
In keeping with the CRSR, the Conners 3 can be administered by using the MHS QuikScore forms. The profile sheets are included in the handscored packages, and convert raw data scores to T-scores, providing you with a clear and easily understood results graph.

Computerized scoring is available for all Conners 3 forms with Windows compatible unlimited use software (purchased separately). This means you can score the test an unlimited number of times once the program has been installed. All the available reports can be generated an unlimited number of times as well. When using scoring software, writing reports based on Conners 3 is simple and painless. You can actually cut and paste words and phrases from the software to create your own customized documents. Results can be used to develop, monitor and revise a client treatment plan. The number of computers that can use the computerized scoring program is limited to the number of installations purchased.
